With summer in full blast, many of us are going to the beach to enjoy the sultry weather. However, some are also in a rush to get to their waxing appointments, so they will be confident to flaunt their bikinis. But next summer, you no longer have to go through the endless waxing cycle if you switch to bikini laser hair removal.
In this post, we’ll discuss why you should laser your laser bikini area, what to expect, and how to get the best results through our expert tips. Read on and see why you should book an appointment soon!
Laser treatment for bikini area vs. waxing vs. shaving
If we’re going to talk about effectiveness, convenience, and long-term benefits, waxing and shaving have very little to offer against bikini hair laser treatment.
With laser hair removal, you can remove the unwanted bikini hair down to the roots. The laser beams damage the follicles for good to prevent new hairs from growing. That means you no longer have to think about monthly waxing sessions or struggling to shave in the shower.
Removal of laser hair in bikini areas will save you from painful ingrown hairs often associated with shaving. Also, you can kiss nicks, bumps, and cuts goodbye!
Once you’ve finished about 6 laser treatment sessions, you only have to get 1 to 2 touch-up appointments from us each year. That means you’re always bikini-ready, not just during summer but all year round!
How to prepare for your bikini laser hair removal
Since your skin down there is one of the sensitive parts of the female body, you need to observe proper preparation before your laser hair removal for the bikini area. Here are some of the things you should and shouldn’t do:
- Stay out of the sun. For 1 to 2 weeks before your bikini laser treatment, you should avoid sun exposure. If you really have to go outside, we recommend wearing pants or knee-length shorts to avoid causing irritation on or near the treatment area.
- Skip some skin products. We will also ask you to stop using products containing retinol, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide, as these substances increase your skin’s photosensitivity. It means that you’ll have a higher chance of getting burns or severe irritations if you use them prior to your treatment.
- Shave your bikini area. Yes, you read that right. At least 24 hours before your appointment with us, you should shave your bikini line to remove the excess hair length. Take note that our laser will target the follicles, and having a bush on top of the skin will make the treatment ineffective and painful.
- Don’t tweeze or wax. If there’s one “mortal sin” you’ll do before your bikini laser removal, it would be plucking or waxing your pubic area. When you do this, you’re literally removing the follicles that we need to neutralize. In this case, we will have to reschedule your appointment until you grow some stubble down there.

What to expect during bikini line laser hair removal
When we laser hair on bikini areas, we always start with a thorough consultation. During this time, we will ask about your skin health, if you have health issues, and what your desired results are.
If you’re all clear, we will proceed with the treatment, where you’ll feel the sensation of a rubber band snapping on your skin. We also use a topical numbing cream to make your experience as comfy as possible.
Take note that your bikini line laser treatment isn’t just a one-thing. To see full hair removal, you’ll need at least 6 sessions. However, we had clients before that required about 10 treatments due to the denser and thicker hair in their intimate areas.
Also, we space out each laser appointment every 4 to 6 weeks. However, if your bikini line skin is very sensitive, we will stretch it to 8 to 10 weeks to allow it to heal properly in between sessions.
This means that an entire treatment plan could take a few months to finish. So, if you want to be bikini-ready by next summer, we suggest that you get started as early as now!
Aside from that, each session of our laser hair removal will last for about 60 minutes. For some our clients, it may take longer if they have thicker hair.
And right after each laser treatment, your skin will feel sensitive, reddish, and mildly swollen. This is a normal reaction to the laser procedure and it will resolve on its own with proper aftercare.
Aftercare tips on your laser hair removal bikini area
While laser hair removal doesn’t have any serious downtime, you still need to observe some aftercare instructions. This way, you can prevent irritations that will delay your next appointments.
Here at Pure Skin Laser Center, here are some of the important points we tell our clients:
1. Wear loose clothes
We always advise wearing loose bottoms and underwear when going for your appointment and in the days that follow. Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton, bamboo, or linen with a loose fit, so it won’t chafe your bikini area.
At the same time, you should skip your skinny jeans or any tight clothing as the friction will only irritate the skin.
2. Skip strenuous physical activities
For the next 24 to 48 hours after your bikini laser hair removal, you should skip the gym or any physical activities that will cause intense sweating. Sweat harbors bacterial growth, which could irritate your pubic area that has recently undergone laser treatment.
Overall, you can take this opportunity to slow down, but you’re still free to resume your usual, less taxing activities. Just be mindful of chafing on your groin area to minimize possible irritation.
3. Avoid heat exposure
After your bikini laser appointment, you should avoid dipping in hot tubs or taking hot showers. Also, we advise against swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, or anything that will soak the treated area on any harsh chemicals and intense temperatures.
For the next 24 or 48 hours, you can take cold showers to help with the swelling and redness.
4. Avoid sexual activity
Having sexual intercourse right after your bikini laser treatment is far from sexy. We recommend waiting at least 24 to 48 hours to avoid irritating your intimate areas. Otherwise, the treated area will feel inflamed and swollen – it’s the last thing you want, trust us.
5. Be patient and realistic
Laser hair removal is not magic, so don’t expect all your pubic hair to fall off just after one or two sessions. Take note that the lasers are only effective on hair strands that are on their active growth phase. This is why we recommend scheduling multiple sessions weeks apart.
The good thing is that you’ll start seeing some of your bikini line hair shedding after the first session. You’ll see the full results when you follow and finish our recommended treatment plan.
Aside from that, you shouldn’t compare your results with other people. Each person’s skin reacts differently to laser treatments – some lose unwanted hair faster, while others need extra sessions.
6. Go to follow-up appointments
Our laser specialists will check on you a few days after your treatment. We will see how your skin is going and we’ll advise you about your next sessions.
But if you have concerns about the treatment, you can reach out to us anytime. Our specialists are always ready to help and assist you.
