Imagine that it’s summertime and your best friend calls you and invites you to an impromptu pool party, yet you’re nervous because you haven’t made a waxing appointment and it’ll take you a good amount of time to shave. Oh no!
Shaving has become such a nuisance, because so many of us are always on the go. Plus, razor burn – ouch! Luckily, laser hair removal is such an effective and easy way to get rid of unwanted body and facial hair. Imagine how much time you’d save getting ready in the morning. * Cue dramatic infomercial music here with voice, “ There must be an easier way!” *
There is! It’s Laser Hair Removal!
Laser Hair Removal is concentrated beam of light that penetrates into the skin and gets rid of unwanted hair. How? Well, the laser uses intense heat and targets the root of the hair (aka, the hair follicle) below the skin to remove that pesky and unflattering/unwanted hair. The hair absorbs the heat and in turn, the hair gets destroyed. This damage is what delays the growth of hair in the future.
While laser removal delays the growth of hair, it is not a solution to permanent hair removal, though results are remarkable, because once you receive several treatments, more often than not, you’ll only have to come in for maintenance and will notice how the hair hardly grows on your legs (or wherever you area you treated).
Laser Hair Removal used to be just for those with dark hair and fair skin. Fortunately, our machine is able to treat dark skin as well, because we only use the latest technology in laser hair removal.
You can use laser hair removal to get rid of hair from your legs, chin, face, underarm, bikini area, arms, back, among other areas. Below are the benefits of laser hair removal. Both, men and women can benefit a lot from laser hair removal. That’s right, men as well. In fact, we have many happy male clients.
Quite frankly, this is the main benefit of laser hair removal; you’d be surprised how much time you’ll save every time you can put on your favorite shorts without worrying about hair on your body. You’ll feel free, comfortable and razor burn will be a thing of the past.
It takes only a fraction of a second for each pulse from the laser to penetrate a hair follicle. The laser can treat different types of hair at the same time. This can be about the size of a quarter each second. The laser can treat small areas such as the upper lip in less than one minute and an hour for large areas, such as legs.
The best thing about laser hair removal is its ability to target coarse and dark hair without damaging the surrounding skin. Some patients may notice redness of the skin, however, that typically goes away within an hour. Your nurse will always start off with low settings to see how your skin reacts and you do not need a high setting to see results. As long as there’s a difference in your hair growth, it means the laser is working. Most people who have used laser hair removal treatments experience permanent hair loss after having an average of seven sessions.
What Happens During Your First Laser Hair Removal Appointment
If you plan to do laser hair removal, find a board-certified doctor in areas like cosmetic surgery and dermatology. Ensure that the doctor is also experienced with laser hair removal for your skin type.
While salons and spas may offer laser removal services, you need to be cautious about them. If you choose them, never allow non-medical personnel to perform laser hair removal for you.
Please schedule a consultation with your staff before the procedure. Let us help you confirm whether it is the best treatment for you.
Below are some of the items we will cover with you during your first session.
- Tell you what to expect when you choose laser hair removal.
- Ask more about your medical history, e.g. history of skin disorders, medication you’ve been using and any past hair removal procedures you’ve done.
- Discuss your treatment plan and offer the best package for you.
Keep the following in mind before you come in for your session:
- Avoid the following methods of hair removal prior to the session: Electrolysis, Plucking and Waxing and any method that removes the hair from the roots.
- Avoid exposing yourself to the sun before treatment and after treatment too. Apply sunscreen of at least SPF 30 when you go out in the sun.
- Trim or shave ONE day before your laser hair removal procedure. This helps to remove the hair above the skin, but still keeps the root and hair follicle.
- Don’t use any blood-thinning medications. This could be anti-inflammatory drugs or aspirin.
Hair in the treated area will shed slowly in two weeks. You will experience patchiness of hair growth, which is normal. However, most patients notice a significant difference toward the end of their treatment plan.
Avoid using topical products that result in photosensitivity in the treatment areas three days after the procedure, e.g. salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and hydroxy acids. You can use a lotion and a gentle cleanser in the treatment areas.
Avoid dermal filler injections, chemical peels or Botox injections in the area you have treated.
Think of laser hair removal as zapping excessive hair. This is a sensitive medical procedure that requires someone with proper training and experience to perform, which our medical team as Pure Skin Laser Center has.
