Before Your Lip Transformation: Key Things You Should Know About Lip Fillers!

Before Your Lip Transformation: Key Things You Should Know About Lip Fillers!

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 5.6 million filler procedures were done in 2022 alone. It’s a very popular procedure, especially for those who want to give their lips a boost.

If you’re also interested in trying this treatment, it’s important to know some key information first. This way, you can set realistic expectations before you get your very first injection.

What to know about lip fillers

Before Your Lip Transformation: Key Things You Should Know About Lip Fillers!

We often get a lot of inquiries about lip fillers, and we’re always happy to assist our clients. Most of them are concerned about what they should expect and the key information they should know before making an appointment.

If you’re also on the same page, we compiled here some of the common things our clients ask us about:

  1. Lip fillers are not permanent.

One crucial aspect to understand is that dermal fillers are not permanent. They offer a temporary enhancement to your lips, allowing you to experiment with different looks and adjust them as desired.

Overall, the longevity of lip fillers typically ranges from six months to a year. This depends on factors such as the type of filler used and your metabolism.

The upside is that this temporary nature provides flexibility and allows you to adapt your lip appearance over time.

  1. Not All Lip Fillers Are the Same

When it comes to lip fillers, you should know that not all products are created equal. Various formulations of lip fillers are available on the market, each with unique properties and benefits.

The most commonly used lip fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers, which are what brands like Juvederm and Restylane offer.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body that helps maintain skin hydration and volume. These fillers offer a safe and effective way to enhance your lips while providing natural-looking results.

On the other hand, there are other types of fillers, including poly-l-lactic acid, CaHA, and PMMA.

  1. Swelling and Bruising Are Normal

Some of our clients who have tried lip fillers call us back worried about the swelling and mild bruising. Overall, these are normal and will wear off in just a few days.

Note that swelling is your body’s natural response once a foreign substance enters. But once the filler settles, the swelling will also subside.

Applying ice packs and taking over-the-counter pain medication can help alleviate any discomfort or swelling. It’s important to note that everyone’s individual healing process may vary.

  1. Mild bumps are also normal right after each session

Aside from swelling and bruising, you might also notice some mild bumps immediately after each lip filler session. Some of our clients call us saying, “I feel lip filler bumps when I smile!’.

But don’t panic. These bumps are a result of the product settling into your tissues and will eventually smooth out on their own within a week or two.

Overall, just avoid touching or massaging your lips excessively during this time. And if the bumps persist longer than two weeks, don’t hesitate to call us right away.

  1. Lip filler dosages vary for each person

The amount of fillers injected into your lips varies, depending on your desired results.

For the most part, we start with a dosage of 0.5 ml lip fillers on thin lips. This 1/2 ml lip filler before and after is often enough for those who only want a subtle enhancement.

However, for those with much thinner lips, we often recommend 2ml of lip filler. This way, we can restore the lost volume of their kissers without overfilling.

  1. Cheap fillers are a no-go

Did you just find the cheapest filler you’ve ever seen? Before you make an appointment, let’s stop you for a moment.

Take note that quality, FDA-approved fillers cost around $10 or more without discounts or promotions. So, if a clinic is lowballing you for as much as half the price, you should start getting suspicious.

So, to make sure that you’re getting quality and safe lip fillers, you should only go to a reliable medical spa like Pure Skin Laser Center. We only use FDA-approved, authentic, and proven fillers to give you a hassle-free lip boost.

  1. It’s more than just making your lips pouty.

While achieving plumpness and fullness in your lips is often one of the main benefits of lip fillers, it actually works in other ways.

We can also use it to enhance the natural shape of your lips or even fix an uneven lip. Aside from that, our lip fillers are effective in smoothing wrinkles around the mouth to make you look even younger.

  1. You wouldn’t want to overdo it.

Let’s make one thing clear: overfilling is a big NO when it comes to lip fillers.

As much as some of our clients want to get full and pouty lips, we always advise against getting fillers that are more than what they need.

Overfilling will make your lips look unnatural, unbalanced, and even saggy. And if you don’t know it yet, sagging lips after fillers can easily ruin your look.

At Pure Skin Laser Center, we always encourage our clients to start with minor enhancements and build their way from there. With that, they can see the changes slowly instead of being surprised by a drastic change they don’t like.

Sure thing, lip fillers aren’t permanent, but it takes months to dissolve. The last thing you’d want is an overfilled lip with a big upcoming event.

Let’s answer some of our clients’ questions!

Before Your Lip Transformation: Key Things You Should Know About Lip Fillers!

Can you smile after lip fillers?

Smiling with lip injections won’t have a negative effect on your results. In fact, smiling is a form of gentle massage that will help the filler settle evenly throughout your lips.

But as much as smiling with lip fillers is fine, you shouldn’t overdo your facial expressions.

Can you drink coffee after lip fillers?

In general, we suggest avoiding caffeine within 48 hours after the treatment. It’s because some people experience increased inflammatory responses when they take caffeine, which is not a good thing to do while your lips are still swollen from the injections.

But after the 48-hour window, drinking coffee (not too hot, though!) in moderation would be fine.

Can you get 2 syringes of lip filler at once?

You can certainly get 2 syringes of lip filler in one visit, but it’s not applicable to everyone. We still have to asses your lip shape, size, and desired results.

In some cases, 2 syringes at once is too much. We usually recommend getting a syringe during your first visit, letting your lips take shape, and then deciding if you’d want another syringe on a second appointment.

Should I get lip fillers if I’m under 18?

Nope! We highly discourage getting lip fillers if you’re under the age of 18. It’s because most lip filler products are only FDA-approved for cosmetic use for people over 21 years old.
